Tweet 0MAKATI HOLDS "BIKE 4 MOTHER EARTH" SUNDAY, JUNE 24
posted by : icrd on 06/23/2012In observance of Environment Month this June, the city government of Makati, in partnership with the Makati Cycling Federation and with the support of the Office of the Vice President, will hold the 25-kilometer ‘Bike for Mother Earth’ mass ride on Sunday, June 24 from 5am to 9:40am starting from Paseo de Roxas corner Ayala Avenue.
The event, dubbed “C.L.E.A.N. Ride” that stands for Cyclists Love for Environment and Advocates of Nature, is being held for the second time in Makati through the efforts of the city Department of Environmental Services (DES).
Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay, a strong environment advocate, hailed the various organizations of cyclists and bikers, private corporations and government offices that have readily given their support to the said activity, which aims to promote biking as a healthy and environment-friendly mode of transportation.
“The city government and the people of Makati salute our partners in the Bike for Mother Earth activity that is now on its second year in our city. We thank you for readily extending your support and cooperation to the city government on this undertaking, which seeks to encourage the use of bicycles to promote clean air and physical well-being,” Binay said.
Other partners of the city in this year’s event include Cycling Advocate (CYCAD), Ayala Property Management, Makati Commercial Estates Association (MACEA), Liga ng mga Barangay, San Fabian Bikers, West Rembo Cycling Club (WRCC), Makati Cycling Club, Cycling Club of Makati (CYCLOM), Makati Bikers Club (MBC), Ultimate Riders, and Block 8 Cycling Club.
Event sponsors include the E.S.E SIGNEX, Manila Water Company, Inc., San Miguel Corporation, and the Makati Environment Foundation, Inc.
DES officer-in-charge Danilo Villas gave the route of the mass ride, as follows: Start-off point at Paseo de Roxas, then left to Makati Avenue, right to Gil Puyat Avenue going straight to Buendia flyover down to Kalayaan Avenue., right straight to C-5 U-turn slot, right to Kalayaan Avenue, left to J.P. Rizal Avenue going straight inside Makati Park & Garden for a 10-minute water stop. Then the bikers will turn right to J.P. Rizal Avenue, then left to Chino Roces Avenue, right to Vito Cruz Extension, left to Sampaloc Street, left to Mayapis Street, right to Malugay Street crossing Osmeña Hi-way straight to Emilia Street, left to Bautista Street, left to Edison Street, left to Pasay Road, right to Evangelista Street, left to Hen. Lim Street, right straight to Osmeña Hi-way U-turn Slot. Then they will turn right to Don Bosco Street, left to Chino Roces Avenue, right to Pasay Road, and left to Paseo de Roxas where the ride started.
Meanwhile, Villas announced that a tree planting activity will be conducted at Barangay San Antonio on June 25, Monday, from Malugay to Zobel Street, at 7am, also as part of the city’s observance of Environment Month.
