New Miss Makati crowned

A third year college student and fashion model won the Miss Makati 2015 crown, besting 32 other candidates in the pageant’s coronation night held recently at the Makati Coliseum.

Eighteen-year old Kimberly Joy Tolentino from Brgy. Pinagkaisahan, a BSBA Marketing Management student at Adamson University, was formally introduced during the Sampiro de Makati Festival 2015 held at Makati Avenue last Thursday.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay said the newly-crowned Miss Makati 2015, like her predecessors, will serve as the city’s ambassador of goodwill who will embody women empowerment, represent the city to national and international sectors, and promote the city as the prime investment destination.

Tolentino, who took home P250,000 as cash prize, is also a model and had walked the runway for Philippine Fashion Week. She is the youngest in a brood of three.

Two other residents of the city’s second district were named as winners: Hannah Iglesia of Brgy. West Rembo as first runner-up, with P150,000 cash prize, and Blessing Sison of Brgy. Post Proper Northside, second runner-up with P100,000 plus additional P10,000 for winning as Best in Long Gown during the pageant.

The Miss Makati 2015 pageant, now on its 25th year, was one of the highlights of the citywide celebration of the 345th foundation day of Makati. It was hosted by Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up, Venus Raj.

The board of judges in this year’s pageant was composed of Anthony Nocom, president of Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines; Jonas Gaffud, president of Mercator Model Management, Inc./Aces and Queens Studio; Mr. Ronnie Cruz, CEO of Art Personas; Katarina Rodriguez, Asia’s Top Model finalist; and Sam Ajdani, Mr. World Philippines 2015.

The other winners of special awards with P10,000 cash prize each were Nicole Allison Babasa of Brgy. Guadalupe Nuevo, Miss Friendship, and Angelique De Leon of Brgy. San Lorenzo, Best in Swimsuit.

The other candidates who made it to the top 10 were Angelique De Leon, Hazel Navera of Brgy. Kasilawan; Aya Frances Cruz, Brgy. Rizal; Jennielyn Saldo, Brgy. Comembo; Patricia Asturias, Brgy. Bel-Air; Irina Cortez, Brgy. Sta. Cruz; and Laureen Vicente, Brgy. Poblacion.

The coronation night was also graced by former Makati mayor Dr. Elenita S. Binay, First District Representative Monique Yazmin Lagdameo and city councilors Ma. Alethea Casal-Uy, Ma. Theresa De Lara, Ma. Concepcion Yabut, Tosca Camille Ramos and Mary Ruth Tolentino.
