Mayor Abby orders police chief to immediately resolve shooting of brother’s aide;

vows to sustain peace in Makati

Makati Mayor Abby Binay has ordered the Makati chief of police to immediately resolve the shooting incident involving the former executive assistant of former Mayor Jun Binay.

In a statement issued today, the mayor vowed that she will not allow troublemakers to disturb the peace and order in the city.

(I am ordering the chief of police to do everything possible to resolve the incident and identify those who are behind it. I am also ordering the barangay chairman to collaborate with the police and immediately turn over the CCTV footage and any other material that may help with the investigation.)

Monaliza Bernardo, 44-year old resident of Olympia Village in the said barangay, was shot by a still unidentified gunman in front of her house as she was entering the gate. According to the initial police report, the victim was shot on the right hand and the bullet went through her stomach. She was brought to Makati Medical Center for treatment.

Based on the police report, the shooting took place at about 8:13pm Thursday in front of the victim’s residence. Witnesses said the gunman came from behind Bernardo on board a blue motorcycle and shot her once before fleeing with an unidentified companion towards South Avenue. The police recovered one empty shell of caliber .45 bullet from the crime scene.

The Makati police are currently conducting follow-up operations on the case.
